Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of William Maughan and Anastasija Varslavane almost a decade ago, have stood down major search operation that began late last week. 

William and Anna, who had been together since 2014, were last seen on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. 

Prior to their disappearance, they had and lived in a caravan in Gormanston, Co. Meath before William decided to return to his family home in Tallaght with Anna.

Investigating gardai confirmed on Friday that that they had begun searches on open lands in north County Dublin and in an update, issued this Tuesday evening, they confirmed "nothing of evidential value was located during the search operation".

Gardaí, who have updated the family as to these developments, continue to appeal to anyone with information in relation to the disappearance and murder of William Maughan and Anna Varslavane to speak with them.

"Given the passage of time since their disappearance, individuals personal circumstances may now have changed and people may now be in a position to either speak to investigating gardaí or to provide information now that they may not have been able to provide before," said a spokesperson.

Gardai are appealing to anyone with any information, no matter how small or insignificant they believe it to be, to contact Ashbourne garda station on 01 8010600 or any garda station.

Anyone who wishes to provide information confidentially should contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 and gardai say any information will be treated with the strictest confidence.
