'Check you hob immediately' - Irish homes warned over 'potentially fatal issue'
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has issued a warning to Irish households over a number of hobs amid poisoning fears.
"There are hundreds of dangerous gas hobs in Irish homes right now," the stark warning reads.
The latest update from the CCPC adds that "a potentially fatal fault in some models could cause gas poisoning, fires, explosions and death."
They advise homeowners, renters and landlords to "act now and act swiftly to protect yourself and your household."
A statement continued: "Some gas hobs have a faulty elbow joint that may fracture, causing gas to leak. This issue affects the following brands (specific models only):
Belling
ElectriQ
Cooke and Lewis
Caple
Russell Hobbs
Comfee
"If you own or rent a property with a gas hob, check it now," they said.
How to check:
"Look for your gas hob’s brand name.
"If you have one of the above brands, click that specific link for more information, including the affected model numbers and manufacturer contact details or, simply ring the manufacturer and let them know you may have one of the faulty gas hobs."

If your hob is affected, the CCPC advice is to, "stop using it immediately – it is unsafe.
"Contact the manufacturer for a free inspection and repair by a registered gas installer."
Renters are advised to "ask your landlord or letting agent to confirm if the hob is affected and arrange for inspection or repair.
"If you can’t get a response from them, you may need to take action yourself. Follow the steps above and contact the manufacturer of the gas hob in your home.
"This issue may also affect gas hobs in holiday homes, campervans, or boats—check all properties."
