On RTÉ's Upfront with Katie Hannon, newly elected Labour TD, Marie Sherlock has ruled out Government formation with Fianna Fáil who took 48 seats and Fine Gael who took 38 seats in Government.

Labour Party greatly increased their seats in Government in this election having only 6 seats in 2020, to winning 11 seats in 2024.

Speaking on the programme TD Sherlock said "There is not circumstance that I can envisage that the Labour Party will be going into Government with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. We can only form a basis for negotiation if we are with other small parties."

When asked for clarification by Katie Hannon who asked "Is that an absolute red line for Labour, you will not be going in on your own?"

Responding Sherlock says "We have been very clear since before this election, that in order to affect the change that is so desperately needed in this country that we can only do so on the basis of strength and numbers. We can't do it with only 11 TDs and we are thrilled to have 6 new TDs now, that we have grown as a party but we need to have the other smaller parties working as a common block."
