'Unimaginable' - Tributes paid after woman dies giving birth at University Hospital Galway

University Galway Hospital has confirmed that a 38-year-old woman died suddenly while giving birth at the hospital.

Teresa Charlin-Foy had collapsed at home and was rushed to hospital where she gave birth to a baby girl named Claudia Teresa who was born 'alive and well.'

Despite the efforts of the medical staff at the Galway hospital, Ms Charlin Foy could not be saved.

Ms Charlin Foy was a Galway based IT engineer from Sanxenxo in Northern Spain.

She leaves behind her devastated husband Stephen Foy and newborn daughter Claudia.

Her funeral takes place in Renmore, Galway on Wednesday before she is taken to her family home in Spain.

"We wish to express our deepest condolences to the family," a spokesperson for University Hospital Galway said.

"A full system analysis review will be undertaken in line with HSE Incident Management framework," the spokesperson added.

Tributes have been flooding in for Ms Charlin-Foy. One woman wrote on RIP.ie: "I will keep you in my prayers as you deal with your unimaginable loss. Your beautiful wife will always be with you and your precious baby Claudia. and may her memory give you strength."

Another woman who was in the hospital at the time of the emergency said: "Condolences to your husband and daughter. I'm absolutely devastated for all your family. I myself had an antenatal appointment on Friday in UCG when this emergency was going on. I could not believe it when I recognised your beautiful face online today. Hard to believe that something so cruel and so devastating could happen to a beautiful woman bringing a beautiful child into this world. Thinking of all the family."
