Gardai investigating the violent death of Adnan Asic in Dublin more than two years ago have arrested a man as part of the murder inquiry.

Mr Asic, 60, was walking home after a night out in the Blanchardstown area on October 22, 2022 when he was attacked and assaulted. He sustained serious injuries and was found lying on the ground just before 3am and latet died in hospital.

The deceased was originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but had been living in Ireland for nearly 30 years.

In an update, issued this Tuesday evening, gardai confirmed there has been a development in the case.

"Gardaí in Blanchardstown have today, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, arrested a man in connection with the death of Adnan Asic, 60 years, in the Dublin 15 area in the early hours of Saturday, October 22, 2022.

An Garda Síochána has now commenced a murder investigation," said a spokesperson.

The arrested man, aged in his 40s, is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda station in north Dublin area.

Investigating gardaí are also renewing their appeal to any person who was in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, the Old Navan Road and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and surrounding areas between 12am and 3am on Saturday, October 22, 2022, and who observed any activity which drew their attention, to come forward.

In particular, they are appealing to anyone who saw two men together at the junction of Blanchardstown Road North and the Old Navan Road, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15 in the early hours of October 22, 2022 to contact them.

"Any road users, particularly taxi drivers, or pedestrians who were travelling in these areas at these times who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí," added the spokesperson.
