Gardai sieze horses left unattended amid sub-zero conditions

Gardai were alerted to two horses left unattended in a field in Naas Co. Kildare on Tuesday January 7.

The Gardai were assisted by Kildare County Council, according to a post on Facebook, and removed the horses due to animal welfare concerns.

The incident was reported to the Gardai by locals and by the field owner as the animals were "constantly in severe cold with no shelter" were also left without sufficient water and grazing.

Gardai said, "our enquiries into identifying and locating the owner responsible" are ongoing.

"It should really go without saying- look after your animals," gardai added.

As Gardai took to social media to share this incident, more people have uncovered horses being left unattended in the severe cold.

One Facebook user commented, "there's two poor horses similar to that on Rathangan/ Monasterevin road. No coat or shelter."

Another Facebook user said, "Excellent. Thousands left like this all around Ireland poor things."
