'Beyond heartbreaking' - Woman found in River Moy named as fiancée of Mayo GAA star Conor Loftus

Tributes have been paid to the woman whose body was recovered on Saturday from the River Moy in Mayo was named locally as Róisín Cryan.

Communities across Mayo and Leitrim have been left heartbroken by Róisín's tragic death. The 28-year-old was a native of Attyrory, Carrick-on-Shannon and was engaged to Mayo senior footballer Conor Loftus.

The Leitrim woman was the daughter of Joe and Marguerite Cryan, and the sister of Annmarie, Clare, Ruth and Maeve.

Many have taken to express their condolences with Róisín's family online as well as to share kind words regarding the "beautiful girl" she was.

In a tribute on Facebook, Shannon Gaels GAA wrote: "On behalf of the entire Shannon Gaels GAA community, we extend our deepest condolences to Joe and Marguerite, Conor, Annmarie, Clare, Ruth, Maeve and the Cryan family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. May you find strength and comfort in each other, and know that we stand with you in your grief."

Among the hundreds of condolences shared under Róisín's RIP.ie notice, one person wrote: "She was so welcoming and kind to everyone. Absolutely a beautiful person, inside and out. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to meet her."

Another shared: "She had a special kind of energy—gentle, kind, and full of life."

Someone else said: "She was so lovely and such a beautiful girl."

The tragic news has truly rocked the local communities.

Róisín will repose at The Heritage Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon from 3pm until 7pm on Monday, 13 January. Removal will take place on Tuesday evening and will arrive at St. Mary’s Church in Carrick-on-Shannon 6 o’clock. Burial will take place at Drumlion Cemetery at 11 o'clock on Wednesday.
