Always the last place you expect! Gardaí help tourist track stolen phone found in unusual place

Gardaí return the stolen phone to tourists Marina and Christian at O'Connell Street Garda Station.

Gardaí in Dublin City went on a somewhat bizarre hunt for a tourist's phone that had been stolen earlier this week.
Bulgarian tourists Marina and her husband Christian reported to gardaí that Marina's phone had been stolen while visiting the city. Gardaí said: "In a split second her phone had been snatched from the table that they had been sitting at while out for something to eat last night."
Garda Philip Monahan and Garda Conor Newman who were on the beat around the city at the time met with Marina and her husband and the tourists were able to show the live location of the tracker on the stolen phone.
Luckily, the gardaí were able to use the tracker along with CCTV from the premises that the phone had been stolen to identify a person of interest.
As they watched the location moving, it eventually stopped at Store Street Garda Station. However, it hadn't been handed in.
They soon realised that the person of interest had actually been arrested overnight and was in custody for an unrelated offence.
Garda Philip Monahan and Garda Conor Newman discovered the phone stuffed down the side of the back seat of the Garda car the individual had been brought to the station in.
Marina was fortunate to have her phone returned to her by Gardaí on Tuesday, 14 January.
