A motorist who was caught speeding and charged with dangerous driving on a busy road gave gardaí a sorry excuse when stopped over the weekend.
Gardaí clocked the high-powered BMW car doing 165km/h in a 100km/h zone in Galway over the weekend.
When stopped, the driver claimed not to be from Galway and, as such, "didn't know the speed limit" on the road.
The driver was charged with dangerous driving with court proceedings to follow.
In a post on X, gardaí said: "Gardaí in Galway detected a car travelling at 165km/h in a 100km/h zone.
"The driver claimed he's not from Galway so didn't know the speed limit. Last we checked this is no excuse.
"He was charged with dangerous driving and will appear in court to argue his case."
