RTÉ has stated that it has "no plans" for a new series of Love/Hate after actor John Connors said production was due to begin later this year.
The Cardboard Gangsters actor appeared on Virgin Media's Six O'Clock Show on Thursday and told hosts Brian Dowling and Katja Mia that the crime drama would be back on screens next year after more than ten years since the final episode.
He said: "Yeah. It is coming back. It's going into production later this year, so it'll be out next year. Seriously, this is an exclusive. I wasn't meant to say it until tomorrow. I'm being serious, hand on my heart.
"I can't reveal the plot or anything, but yeah. I'll be in it and I can't really reveal who else is in it but it's going ahead again. It's very, very exciting but it's a long time since we did it."

An RTÉ spokesperson responded to Connors' claims saying: "There are no plans for a new series of Love/Hate. Fans can watch all five series on RTÉ Player."
The Love/Hate actor followed up on his Virgin Media interview when he shared a video on his Instagram account to clarify that Love/Hate is coming back but not to RTÉ.
He said: "It's not on RTÉ, it's on Netflix. They're bringing it back a bit like what they did with Top Boy."
Connors continued: "I'll give you a little exclusive on it, we're shooting back-to-back seasons, season six and season seven.
"Is Nidge alive? Nidge is alive, but that's all I can say on Nidge.
"I'm doing a full episode on The Sons Of Katie podcast with my brothers with the writer Stuart Carolan and we're going to break some really exciting news about the show and what's going to be happening."
Love/Hate, a crime drama set in Dublin which became gripped audiences for five seasons from its debut in 2010, depicts the lives of fictional characters in the criminal underworld of Irish gangsters.
The gangland drama served as a springboard for many Irish actors who have gone on to have successful careers including Robert Sheehan, Ruth Negga, Killian Scott, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Charlie Murphy, Peter Coonan and Aidan Gillen.
