Valentine's Day is a festive holiday you either love or hate. This is because for many, the day of love feels like it has been designed for couples to celebrate solely, but do not let this misconceptions stop you because at the end of the day, there is no romantic bond that is stronger than self love.
If you are single do not fret, as this February 14 is an excellent opportunity to eat as much chocolate as you want, buy yourself flowers, and take yourself out. Treat yourself like a partner would treat you on this day!
Here are eight things you can do today solo, to ensure you have the greatest Valentine's Day yet.
1. Treat yourself to a delicious meal
Whether it be made from scratch, or from your favourite take-away, Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to eat whatever your heart desires. Remember, having a meal on your own is just as relaxing, if not more, since you get to pick exactly what you want!
2. Have a self-care day
As stated previously, self love is more important than any romantic interest, so use this day as the perfect excuse to truly pamper yourself. How that looks is up to you, and what makes you feel your absolute best.
3. Buy yourself flowers
Yes, you read that right. You do not need a partner to buy you flowers, chocolates, or whatever you have had your eyes set on. If it makes you happy and is within your means, then buy it. Remember, you are absolutely worth some daisies or roses, and that is not defined by your relationship status.
4. Try something new
Have you ever wanted to get started on a new hobby but never had the time? Well, this Valentine's Day is the perfect time to start. Whether it be learning a new language, or starting out in knitting, crochet, or whatever tickles your fancy, a new skill will add excitement to the day.

5. Create a vision board
If reflecting on your future is something you tend to find yourself doing on this holiday season, make it positive and productive by creating a vision board. You can have anything your heart desires on this, and the board itself will serve as a reminder of all you hope to accomplish, and aside from that, it is a fun and creative activity.
6. Celebrate Palentine's
Valentine's Day is not just about celebrating romantic love, but love of all kinds. There is not much more powerful than the affection shared among close friends. So, this year you can grab your besties and do what feels right! Be it the cinema, drinks, or casual conversation, you will undoubtedly leave them feeling even more fulfilled.
7. Go on a solo date
Don't forget, just because you are single, it doesn't mean you can't embrace the typical Valentine's traditions. Think of the most perfect date you would like to go on, and don't wait for a potential partner to bring you on it, bring yourself! Dinner, coffee, the cinema, you name it.
8. Write yourself a love letter
Above all, this day is about people appreciating those who they love, and as a singleton it is no different. Take a moment to appreciate who you are, and write down some things you love about yourself. It is not only a wholesome activity, but genuinely serves as a reminder of who you are, and everything you are worth.
Being single on Valentine's Day is not something to dread, but an opportunity to celebrate your independence and whatever makes you happiest. While this day may be surrounded by loving couples, you must remember that love comes in many forms. The longest and most important relationship you will ever have is with yourself, so instead of waiting for someone to make Valentine's Day special, take control and do that for yourself.
