Gardaí in Limerick gave a red card to a motorist caught watching the Spurs v Man Utd clash this Sunday afternoon.

There were no penalties in the game but Limerick Live understands the driver could face penalty points on his licence.

An Garda Siochana Limerick shared the news as a road safety warning to others on their social media accounts.

The headline for the update is “Soccer Sundays”.

A garda spokesperson said: “Limerick Roads Policing apprehended this vehicle earlier today, travelling at 120km/h whilst the driver was simultaneously watching the Spurs v Man Utd game on their phone.”

It is understood the motorist was observed by gardai watching the match on the M18 Limerick to Ennis road.

It is not known if he is a fan of the The Lilywhites or The Red Devils. His day went from bad to worse if he is a Man Utd fan as they lost one nil to a James Maddison goal.

The garda spokesperson said: “Needless to say, a court appearance will follow for this football enthusiast. Roads Policing 1 - 0 This Driver.”
