An investigation is underway after a man was arrested following a public order incident in Leitrim.

The man can be seen in a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) sitting in the driver's seat of a garda car before being tackled by a number of officers during the incident in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The video, which was shared by @dubslife1  shows gardaí struggling to get the man out of the car as things can be seen to be getting very heated. 

The man in his 30s has since been released without charge, gardaí have confirmed.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: "Gardaí in Co Leitrim arrested a man following a Public Order incident at Main Street, Carrick-on-Shannon, at around 2:45am on Sunday, February 16.

"The man, aged in his 30s, was subsequently released without charge, pending further investigations.

"No further information."

Many people have had a reaction to the incident online, one user under the video commented: "The locals deserve better."

Another user said: "A few clowns are going to ruin it for everyone now."

A third added: "Who would be a guard?"
