Members of the Burke family were spotted flying to Washington on the same day the Taoiseach is set to travel there to meet President Trump.

Journalist Cuan Ó Seireadáin tweeted about seeing the family and wrote on their X account: "Members of the Burke family are on my flight to Washington DC."

When he asked them for a comment he goes on to say: "When asked about the purpose of their journey the refused to answer my question as to whether they have been invited or not."

Speaking on if the Taoiseach would have an issue with them being involved in the St Patrick's Day festivities in Washington he said:

"I’m going to represent the Irish people on behalf of the Government of Ireland and the people of Ireland. I have a lot of functions on all week, and that’s what I’m focused on."
