It was a St Patrick's Day to remember for one Irish family as Garda Mark Byrne and his daughter Caragh marked a special milestone together in the force.
Garda Mark Byrne, stationed in Midleton, proudly stood beside his daughter Caragh, who is currently completing her Phase 2 training at Anglesea Street Station in Cork City.
The moment was even more special because Mark himself joined An Garda Síochána 18 years ago, and now, his daughter is following in his footsteps.
A photo of the pair shared by An Garda Síochána Cork captured the touching moment, showing just how far things have come since Mark's own passing out ceremony in Templemore in 2007.
"The apple didn't fall too far from the tree!" the Gardaí quipped in a post on Facebook.
"When Garda Mark Byrne passed out from the Garda College in Templemore back in 2007, he could hardly have imagined that years later he would be getting his picture taken with his daughter as a Trainee Garda on St. Patrick's Day.
"Garda Mark Byrne is attached to Midleton Station and Garda Caragh Byrne is currently completing her Phase 2 training at Anglesea Street Station in Cork City."
The post has been met with a wave of support online, with many praising the duo for their service and highlighting the "full-circle" moment that brought them together in the force.
