A still from the Venus razor advert which angered some listeners to RTÉ's Liveline
Irish social media users have been giving their two cents on today's Liveline programme following a call from a 'disgruntled' woman regarding a new Venus advert for razors.
The advert promotes a Venus-branded razor which is said to be specifically designed for hair removal of the pubic area and bikini line. A model wearing a vest top and underwear demonstrates how to use the razor around her upper thigh in the 'bikini line' areas as she explains the razor's design.
The caller - Ann - took issue with the advert as well as other adverts including those for period products and discreet underwear liners.

"It (the advert) put the camera at a different angle - it was at the top of the lady's underwear and it was showing the public hair - I mean there is no need for this.... NO!" she said.
"To me it just cheapens women and it's just a step too far and I think in society today women need to be respected and everything has a knock-on effect of everything else and women are not, in certain areas, being respected - they are being raped, murdered and beaten up," she added.
Another woman - Úna - who called to support Ann, described the advert as disgusting and the 'epitomy of vulgarity' and called on RTÉ to "take those vulgar indecent adds off the screen".
A caller, who told Joe Duffy she works in a pharmacy, described the criticism of the advert as "ridiculous" adding: "I don't understand why they have a problem with it - I really don't. I don't think the add is disrespectful - it's showing women what's out there."
Upon hearing the debate and discussion on Liveline, listeners of the show took to X/Twitter to share their thoughts.
One person said: "Indignant caller says “I’m not old but I grew up in the 60s” and proceeds to trash the ads for periods, private pubes and pee pads on #Liveline - no we need to talk about all these things to normalise and remove the shame of human bodily functions. As a retired nurse I despair"
Another posted: "#liveline today is Comedy Gold ...a TV advertisement about Pubic Hair Removal has all the Aul Wans up in arms ...I thought I was transported back to the 1970's ."
Another person said: "Fair play to the first caller ,straight to the point ,no beating around the bush #liveline"
Another remarked: "This LiveLine discussion is BONKERS! This prudishness in certain generations in Ireland is extremely damaging #liveline"
