Inspirational story of girl (9) doing 'the best she can' amid Go Fund Me plea

Chloe Spelman, a nine-year-old girl born with Congenital CMV infection, is an inspiration story for others as she takes the next steps for treatment.

Her mother Miriam Spelman has set up a Go Fund Me recently to raise funds for Chloe's intensive therapy in July in London, through the 'Breath Magic Programme.'

It will allow Chloe to receive 60 hours of Intensive Bimanual Upper Limb Therapy and €4,980 has been raised on her Go Fund Me so far.

"We are absolutely thrilled and feel so lucky that Chloe is being given this opportunity. The charity will part fund the place and we have to raise the rest of the funds.

"Included in this, myself and Chloe will be in London for 2 weeks. All funds raised will go directly to Breathe Magic to fund Chloe's place, with any surplus going to help keep this very special initiative going and help other little cerebral palsy champions grow in independence and self confidence," Miriam said.

Miriam tells her daughters fascinating story as Chloe fights through her diagnosis, which causes hearing loss and cerebral palsy affecting her right hand side.

Despite this, Chloe attends mainstream school and loves to play sport and join in with her friends and two sisters Freya and Alannah the best she can.

"These days Chloe is working really hard to become that bit more independent and master tasks others take for granted like putting on her socks, doing buttons and zips, tying her hair in a pony tail, cutting her food, writing her homework, putting batteries into her hearing aid and getting those tricky packets open," Miriam said.

"In February we went to London to meet with the Charity Breathe Magic, their programme is an innovative intervention, incorporating specially selected magic tricks that provoke specific two-handed actions, as well as performance and problem-solving skills, for young people with hemiplegia and cerebral palsy," Miriam continued.

The programme provides one-to-one support tailored to suit each young person’s particular strengths, needs, and goals.

By learning high-quality magic and performance skills, Chloe can increase her independence in self-care skills and improve her psychosocial wellbeing by building confidence, self-esteem and a can-do attitude.

She will also get the chance to meet and connect with other young people who are dealing with similar conditions.
