Gardaí appeal for witnesses after woman's car hijacked and used in spate of robberies

Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses after a series of serious incidents in Dublin and Wicklow on Saturday, 26 April which involved a woman's car being stolen from her.

On Saturday evening at around 7.45pm on St Peter's Road in Walkinstown, Dublin, a man approached a black Nissan Quasquai and threatened the female driver of the car, aged in her 30s, who then got out of her car. The man then took off in the car.

Gardaí said that less than an hour later at around 8.15pm they responded to reports of a robbery at a commercial premises on the Dublin Road in Bray. They said: "a male entered the store brandishing an implement and threatened staff. A quantity of alcohol was taken."

Another robbery then occurred shortly after 8.45pm at commercial premises in Rathnew, County Wicklow. Again, gardaí said that a man had entered the store and threatened staff while "brandishing an implement." This time, a sum of money was taken.

Gardaí say that they believe that the vehicle used during the two robberies was the black Nissan Quasquai that had been stolen earlier from the woman in Walkinstown.

A man in his 40s was arrested on Sunday morning in connection with the investigation and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in a Garda Station in the Dublin area.

As investigations are ongoing, gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Anyone who was travelling in the St Peter’s Road area of Walkinstown on Saturday between 7.30pm and 8pm is asked to contact gardaí.

Gardaí say they are particularly interested in the movements of a 141-MH registration black Nissan Quasquai that was travelling in Walkinstown, Bray and Rathnew between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday evening.

Additionally, road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
