Drone carrying bomb intended for criminal's house lands in home of innocent family in Dublin

A drone carrying a home-made pipe bomb that was allegedly intended to target a criminal's house landed in the home of an innocent family in Dublin on Sunday night.

Investigating Gardaí have said investigations are ongoing after they carried out searches in multiple properties in Glenties Park in Finglas in the early hours of Monday morning.

The drone crashed into a garden of the families home at approximately 11pm on Sunday night.

Gardaí said the pipe bomb could have caused "major damage and serious injury", but luckily it failed to detonate damage was done to specific components following the crash.

Following a thorough search of the area, the drone was recovered and taken away for forensic examination.

Gardaí believe the bomb is related to feuds between gangs in North Dublin as several shootings and an arson attack on another home in the area have been reported recently.

In a statement, Gardaí said,

"Gardaí attended a domestic residence following reports of a suspicious device in Glenties Park, Finglas, Dublin 11 in the early hours of Monday morning, 5th May 2025.

"The Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the scene and later declared the device safe. The device was subsequently removed for further analysis.

"Investigations are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Defense Forces said,

"Yesterday, bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána (AGS) in relation to a suspected improvised explosive device in the Finglas area in Co. Dublin.

"Following an assessment by the EOD team, the device was rendered safe and evidence was handed over the AGS. This operation concluded yesterday."
