ALERT: Popular sliced meat pulled from shelves over missed safety checks

The FSAI has issued a recall of all vacuum packed ready-to-eat Russell Meats Sliced Corned Beef, Sliced Turkey and Roast Beef Sliced as they were processed, packaged and labelled without approval and were therefore not subject to official controls.

All batch codes and all use by dates are affected. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.

In Ireland, and the EU, official controls for food products like sliced meat are strict and designed to protect public health such as;

  • Food Business Registration or Approval
  • Traceability Checks
  • Hygiene and temperature Controls
  • Labelling and Food Information Regulations
  • Routine Inspections and Sampling

What to do

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated products from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Wholesalers/distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated products and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retail customers.

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated products.
