Irish tourists warned spots in Spain and Portugal to reach 40 degrees
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather has warned Irish tourists that temperatures in parts of Spain and Portugal are set to soar over the coming week.
This follows a Spanish Met warning of high temperatures of up to 40 degrees to hit Spain and Portugal this week, from May 26 to June 1.
In a Spanish weather forecast, it says: "High pressure is dominating this week, bringing with it long hours of sunshine, but also a warmer air mass that will gradually warm up and help push temperatures above 35°C in many Spanish communities. The heat will be the main focus of the coming days, with the first "summer" weather of the year."
"In terms of precipitation, there's very little, although we can see some rain falling at the beginning and end of the week in the form of showers in parts of Spain," the forecast added.
The forecast continues: "Temperatures will continue to rise throughout the week in many areas. Only in the far north of the peninsula will they remain closer to 20°C, but in southern areas they will reach twice that level.

The situation will heat up as the days go by, and May will end with temperatures more typical of the summer months, with anomalies of up to +12°C in the interior of the peninsula."
