An Irish man is in an induced coma after sustaining serious injuries after falling from a seventh-storey building in Lithuania last week.

David 'Daithi' Manley, from Oulart, Co Wexford suffered a severed spinal cord and multiple broken bones in the fall, which happened at around 11am local time last Monday.

He is currently being treated in intensive care in a Lithuanian hospital.

According to his family, David has no movement or feeling from below his chest. His condition deteriorated this week, and he was placed into an induced coma following respiratory failure on Monday night.

"He went into respiratory failure, and they had no choice but to put him back into an induced coma," David's sister Aoife Manley wrote in a GoFundMe campaign update on Tuesday.

In an earlier update posted on Monday, Aoife said David had been able to speak with hospital staff and make jokes when he had the energy to do so. "His mind is good – there's been no brain damage," she wrote. "He is doing small chatting… and still managing to make some funny jokes."

Doctors are monitoring David's heart and lungs closely, with concerns he could develop pneumonia. Surgery on his spine is planned once his condition stabilises.

A GoFundMe campaign launched by his family has raised more than €54,000 towards a €100,000 goal. The funds will help cover travel, accommodation, and medical expenses, as well as necessary renovations to the family's home to support David's long-term care.

The 'Help get Daithi home' campaign describes David's condition as serious, but the family hope he may be transferred to a hospital in Ireland in the coming weeks.

"We are beyond grateful," Aoife wrote. "Everything is going to help so much in regards to family flying over, accommodation, and the changes we will be doing when we get home to make our house accessible for David."

The fundraiser has received over 850 donations to date.
