A man and a woman have died following a house fire in Co Galway early this morning.
As reported by RTÉ, the fire broke out shortly after 6am at a detached bungalow in the townland of Gleann Mhac Muirinn, located around 12 kilometres from Casla in the Connemara region.
The man and woman, who were the only occupants of the house at the time, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies will be removed to University Hospital Galway, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be carried out.
Three units of the County Galway Fire Service, including personnel from Galway City and An Cheathrú Rua, attended the scene and worked to bring the blaze under control.
The house has been sealed off and a technical examination will take place.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and fire services are currently at the scene of a house fire in Glenicmurrin, Co. Galway this morning, Tuesday 3rd June 2025.
"The alarm was raised after 6:00am this morning.
"The scene is preserved and no further information is available at this time."
