Gardaí seize truck with multiple defects in Cavan after driver caught breaking speed limit

The HGV was detained and is pending further tests to be carried out by the Road Safety Authority

A driver is facing serious consequences after the truck they were travelling in was found to have not only broke the speed limit, but also had some major defects.

On Wednesday night, June 18, the Cavan Roads Policing Unit were carrying out their usual checks when they came across a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) speeding.

Upon pulling over, the HGV was found to be driving at 102km in a zone where the speed limit for this vehicle is 80km.

Along with this, a closer inspection by a Roads Policing Unit Officer found that the tachograph calibration had expired and the tyres on the drive axle were excessively worn.

That is not all as it was also uncovered that the CVRT was expired and a suspected manipulating device was fitted, affecting the speed limiter. As well as this, the brake linings were also worn.

As a result of these potential finds, the Heavy Goods Vehicle was detained and is pending further tests to be carried out by the Road Safety Authority.
