I found out what €200,000 can get me in Ireland vs other European countries

For those curious about living abroad, I've done research on the property markets in Spain, France and Italy to compare them to the properties available in Ireland.

With an aim to find the country with the best value for money, I've chosen €200,000 as my budget to see where I could find a home worth buying.

Are you better off flying abroad to other European countries to find your dream home or can you find the perfect home in Ireland with good value for money?

What kind of house can you get in Ireland compared to other countries with the same budget?

Let's find out.....

In Spain, specifically in Campoamor, you could get a spacious two bedroom and two bathroom second floor apartment for €199,999. Right on budget!

The apartment is situated in a gated development in a Campoamor golf course with a pool and is within walking distance of local amenities in La Fuente centre. Four top golf courses and white sandy beaches are also just a short drive away.

I also spotted a gorgeous two bedroom and one bathroom penthouse apartment situated in Villamartin and features palm trees and beautifully maintained green areas and a swimming pool.

Compared to Ireland, €200,000 would get you a spacious two bedroom and two bathroom apartment in County Mayo or a two bedroom town house in Galway with a spacious garden.

In Fenioux, Deux-Sevres in France, you could buy a three bedroom country house with a beautiful patio with a pool for €198,000.

The home also has two en-suite bathrooms.

Compared to Ireland, for €207,291 you could buy a small three bedroom and two bathroom home in Kerry on Chapel street.

Next up in the sunny Porto Recanati, Macerata in Italy you could buy a prestigious one bed and one bathroom penthouse in the central area with stunning sea views for €200,000.

On the other hand in Louth in Ireland, €200,000 would get you a mid-terrace three bedroom and one bathroom house.

After doing the research, I choose Spain as the country with the best value for money when compared to Ireland.

First of all, the options in Spain were plentiful. I could find dozens of different properties on the market for €200,000 in Spain and I also found a lot of cheaper properties too ranging from as low as €80,000.

For me it was much easier to source properties in my budget compared to Ireland, with greater value for money too.

Also, the two properties I chose for Spain both had outdoor pools which are bonuses none of my Irish choices had.

The quality of life in the two Spanish options would be a lot greater as they are both central locations near amenities with a lot of things to do to keep you busy.

With sunshine and a pool, €200,000 could definitely get you better value for money abroad.
