A brand-new RTÉ Radio 1 documentary is set to shine a light on the powerful role GAA clubs play in communities across Ireland.
The Pitch, presented by broadcaster John Murray, launches this Sunday, July 6, at 7pm and promises a compelling journey into some of Ireland's most inspiring grassroots sports stories.
Over the course of the series, Murray travels the length and breadth of Ireland to meet players, coaches, and local supporters whose lives revolve around their local GAA clubs. From tales of incredible sporting victories to stories of resilience and community spirit, the programme offers an intimate portrait of the people behind the jerseys.
Among the clubs featured are Castlehaven GAA in West Cork, currently riding high on success; Mullinalaghta in Longford, famed for their remarkable 2018 Leinster Club Football Championship triumph; Sarsfields GAA in Galway, whose camogie team is reaching new heights; and Edenderry GAA in Offaly, praised for its innovative "One Club" model.
Listeners will also hear from Na Gaeil Aeracha, Dublin's first LGBTQ+ GAA club, who have already claimed silverware just five years after their founding, and from Loughgiel Shamrocks in Antrim, a small community whose hurlers and camogie stars have achieved outsized success.
The first episode focuses on Castlehaven GAA Club in Co Cork, where Murray delves into the club's proud history and recent triumphs, speaking with local heroes including Cork football great Niall Cahalane.
The Pitch promises a fascinating listen for GAA fans across the country when it airs this Sunday, July 6, at 7pm on RTÉ Radio 1.
