A man in his 60s was later pronounced dead in hospital and a women in her 60s has been seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash on the N4 in Westmeath

Man (60s) dies amid fatal road crash and woman (60s) seriously injured

A man in his 60s has died following a tragic road crash in Westmeath and a woman in her 60s has also been seriously injured.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision on the N4 at Ballinalack, Co. Westmeath on Wednesday 9th July 2025.

The crash occurred around 4.20pm and the male driver of one of the cars was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was later pronounced dead.

The female driver of the second car who is also in her 60’s was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore hospital for treatment of serious injuries. 

The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 3.30pm and 4.30pm this afternoon, Wednesday 9th July 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
