Gardaí have seized herbal cannabis worth an estimated €1.6 million after "intercepting" a van during a targeted operation in Co Wexford this week.
The bust happened on Thursday, July 18, as part of a joint sting involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Revenue's Customs Service.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Gardaí confirmed: "In the course of a joint operation conducted by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Revenue officers, a van was intercepted by Gardaí in Ballycarney, Co. Wexford on the 18th July 2025.
"During a search of the van, approximately 80 kilos of herbal cannabis was discovered with an estimated street value of €1.6 million (pending analysis)."
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained.
"A male in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at a Garda Station in the east of the country under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. He may be held for a period of up to seven days."
Gardaí added: "The drugs seized will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis."
"Investigations are ongoing," the statement concluded.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle organised crime and disrupt the supply of illegal drugs across the country.
