'We're truly shattered' - Tributes paid to young Irish man who died in France

Tributes have been paid to a young Waterford man who died following a tragic incident in France on Tuesday.

It's understand that Tomás Walsh, from the Cheekpoint area in Co Waterford, died following an electrocution incident in the metro station in Paris.

Tomás, a talented cyclist who had travelled to France to watch the 16th stage of the Tour de France, has been described as 'an absolute gent and a very talented young man'.

25-year-old Tomás was a beloved member of the Comeragh Cycling Club in Waterford for the past 10 years. In a heartfelt post on Facebook, the club offered their condolences to Tomás' family.

"It is with great sadness that we have learned that our clubmate and friend young Tomás Walsh has lost his life in France.

"We’re truly shattered by this news and extend our sincerest condolences to all his family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Those who knew Tomás left comments underneath the post saying, "A very talented young lad taken way to soon, Deepest condolences to all of Tomas family, friends and clubmates. May he Rest in Peace", and "So so sad such a lovely young man always a big smile and a chat".

The Department of Foreign Affairs have said they are providing consular assistance.

Funeral details are yet to be announced.
