Young girl injured in Parnell Square attack progressing her rehabilitation 'like a champ'

The family of a young girl who was stabbed in Dublin nearly two years ago has issued an update on her condition

A young girl who sustained serious injuries when she was stabbed at Parnell Square in Dublin on November 23, 2023, is continuing with her recovery and has managed to go on a family holiday this summer, according to an update issued via her family's GoFundMe page.

J A, the beneficiary of the fundraiser wrote: “We have been sailing through the summer holidays, but very little resting has happened. Our darling girl has had back-to-back physio, occupational, and speech and language therapies.”

J A described what life has been like since the attack: “After being at home full-time since the end of November, we are day patients in rehabilitation.”

“She has come quite far, and prospects are positive. She is taking this bootcamp like a champ!”

The fundraiser has raised €136,515 so far. J A has commented that: “We don't know when or if she will walk again. We don't know when or if she will talk again.”

The child was five years old when the assault took place, and was critically injured.

The stabbing attack occurred as junior and senior infant children from Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire were being lined up to go to a nearby crèche for an after-school club. The misinformation that followed the attacks triggered the infamous Dublin riots.

A man is currently before the courts charged in connection with the Parnell Square assaults.
