Check your freezer! Popular brand of Turkey burgers recalled amid Salmonella fears

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland says a specific batch of Hogan's Farm Turkey Burgers should not be eaten by consumers

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is advising members of the public not consume a specific batch of Hogan Farm Turkey Burgers which are sold in stores across Ireland, including Dunnes Stores and Supervalu.

In a public notice, it says the batch, which has a use by date of July 26, 2025, is being recalled due to the possible presence of Salmonella.

The recall relates to 400g packs displaying approval number: IE 827 EC

Although this product is past its use by date, the FSAI says it is suitable for home freezing and that some consumers may have placed the burgers in their freezers for use at a later date.

"Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale," reads the notice.

Nature of the danger:

According to the FSAI, people infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.  The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.

Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.  The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

Elderly people, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

Action Required:

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch while retailers have been requested to display notices advising customers of the recall.
