Disqualified driver bought car just one hour before gardaí seized it in Laois

Commenting on this was a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in the county

In a change to usual events, gardaí found themselves offering "financial advice" in Laois yesterday after coming across a very rogue driver.
On Thursday, September 4, members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit were out on patrol when a vehicle peaked their interest.
Upon pulling over this Toyota Prius, it was discovered that not only was the driver disqualified from the roads but also in receipt of a live bench warrant.
As it turns out, the disqualified driver had just purchased the vehicle an hour before this incident in Kildare for €1,000.
The car was seized, with the driver being taken to Portlaoise District Court.
Commenting on this was a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in the county.
They said, "We’re no investment bankers, but here’s what €1,000 could also buy you: 2,500 Freddo bars (better resale value than this Prius), 500 large cappuccinos (at least you’d stay awake on the bus), 4 Electric Picnic tickets (sold-out, unfortunately), a season bus pass (where disqualified drivers actually belong)
"Instead, this €1,000 investment got a court date, no car
"Moral of the story: If you’re disqualified, spending €1,000 on a car is the worst return on an investment you’ll ever see," they concluded.
