There were smiles all round as a Garda was reunited with a boy he helped bring safely into the world, 12 years after rushing his parents through Irish city traffic to the hospital.

An Garda Síochána shared the touching story on social media, recalling how Garda Fintan Corcoran, then stationed in Cabra, spotted a car stuck in traffic and realised it was no ordinary situation.

"On realising it was a medical emergency, a family rushing to the Rotunda Hospital, they provided a much-needed Garda escort through the city streets."

Just four minutes after arriving at the hospital, baby Conor was born safely.

Now, more than a decade later, Conor, who recently turned 12, was reunited with Inspector Corcoran for the first time since that unforgettable day.
