A young woman has died after being struck by a car in a fatal road collision in Co Tipperary on Sunday evening.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after 7pm after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on the R502 at Ballinlassa, between Templemore and Templetouhy.

The pedestrian, described by gardaí as a female in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a pedestrian was struck by a car on the R502 at Ballinlassa, between Templemore and Templetouhy.”

The driver of the car did not require immediate hospital treatment.

“The pedestrian, a female in her 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later,” the Garda spokesperson added.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The scene of the collision has been preserved for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions currently in place.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with footage from the area at the time of the incident.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them,” the spokesperson said.

Road users who were travelling along the road at the time and who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, are also being asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
