Ireland's next country music star will be among the eight contestants taking part in TG4’s hit series, Glór Tíre, which returns for its 19th season.
Glór Tíre is back on our TV screens on Tuesday January 10 at 9.30pm, and for the first time in more than two years, the performers will play before an audience. As always, the show will be presented by Aoife Ní Thuairsig and Séamus Ó Scanláin.
Eight emerging talents of Irish country music will fight it out to win the title of Ireland’s Glór Tíre Country Music champion, with contestants being mentored by a leading figure from the Irish country scene.
Each week, two contestants go head to head for the right to take part in the live elimination shows in February:
● Billy Mac (Fermanagh) and Bríd Shaughnessy (Longford), mentored by Mike Denver (Broadcast on January 10)
● Jamie Donnolly (Tyrone) and Seán Fahy (Mayo), mentored by David James (Broadcast on January 17)
● Tex Deegan (Limerick) and Florence Given (Tyrone), mentored by John McNicholl (Broadcast on January 24)
● Noel Boland (Wicklow) and Molly O’Connell (Tipperary), mentored by Louise Morrissey (Broadcast on January 31)
To progress, they must impress resident judges, Jó Ní Chéide and Caitriona Ní Shuilleabháin, as well as this year’s guest judges, who will be Eddie Rowley of the Sunday World; singer-songwriter Marc Roberts; and Country and Irish artists John Hogan and Matt Leavy.
Each episode will also see the contestants duet with their mentor, giving Country & Irish fans plenty to look forward to in being able to see favourite artists and check out the new and emerging talent.
Glór Tíre, produced by Gael Media, is TG4’s longest running and most successful country music series. It is acknowledged as a vital platform for Country and Irish Music performers and essential viewing for fans of the genre.
“Glór Tíre is the backbone of Country music in Ireland,” says Mike Denver. “To me, people expect to turn on TG4 and see Country music on it. It’s our national station for Country music.”
Radio na Gaeltachta’s Jó Ní Cheide, says: “Glór Tíre is unbelievably important. It has done an amazing job in showcasing, over 19 years, the talent we have and that we might not have seen if it was not for TG4.”
