The death of Lisa Marie Presley has revived memories of her visit to South Tipperary some 16 years ago.

In January 2007, The Nationalist reported that the daughter of the legendary Elvis Presley visited Marlfield House and Knocklofty House, just outside Clonmel, around that time.

She was understood to be interested in buying property in Ireland and was believed to have viewed other properties over a wide area, including Mallow Castle.

She spent an hour visiting Marlfield House and Knocklofty House and expressed a particular interest in Knocklofty House, which is now unoccupied and in a state of disrepair.

Lisa Marie Presley, her children and her mother Priscilla were holidaying with artist Gottfried Helnwein and his family at Gurteen Castle, Kilsheelan.

Lisa Marie had visited the castle just over a year previously for the wedding of rock star Marilyn Manson and burlesque artist Dita Von Teese.

During their 2007 visit the Presleys called to McCarthy's bar in Fethard, where they enjoyed drinks and a singsong with the locals.

They were also believed to have toured the scenic Nire area in county Waterford and were also seen out and about in Clonmel.

Lisa Marie Presley was 54 when she passed away on Thursday.

She was nine when her father died in 1977 aged just 42.
