Ursuline TY students Gillian Aherne, Kate Fitzgerald and Rosa Ryan who exhibited their project, Restrictions on Addiction at the BT Young Scientist 2023 at the RDS
Pres Girls, Faye Twomey and Emily Flanagan, at the BT Young Scientist competition in the RDS last week
Best wishes to our budding scientists in Transition Year, Emily Flanagan and Faye Twomey, as they embark on their Young Scientist adventure this week.
The girls travelled to Dublin with their teacher, Ms Gráinne Ryan, and were emphatically greeted by their fellow TY students in the RDS on the Thursday!
The title of our girls’ project is “Are produce stickers necessary, and is there an alternative?”.
Produce stickers are small stickers made from petroleum-based plastic, which are non-biodegradable and non-compostable, i.e. not good for the environment.
The aim of the girls’ project was to determine if, in fact, these stickers are necessary, followed by investigating if there is an equally effective, environmentally-friendly alternative to them.
During the course of their project, the girls discovered a biodegradable label made by an Irish brand.
The girls also created their own edible stamp for the fruit and vegetables.
We wish them the very best of luck from everyone in the Presentation Thurles community.
