Thurles councillor Peggy Ryan has congratulated Coláiste Mhuire students Sarah Ryan and Rebecca Jordan on their BT Young Scientist and Technology project.

At last week’s sitting of Tipperary County Council, she said that the girls had done a great job raising an important issue.

“So much of what we do at the council is addressing social issues, and these girls are ahead of the curve. They know issues connected to women are incredibly important, and they have given their voices to that. So, we are really proud of them in Thurles,” said Cllr Ryan.

The student's project is titled Period Poverty: An Investigation into the Social and Economic Reasons for Stigma Surrounding Menstruation and Women.

The project reached the final in the Social and Behavioural Science category.
