Coláiste Mhuire students examine period poverty

Rebecca, Sarah and to their mentor Ms Katie Carr at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in the RDS Dublin

Both staff and students are immensely proud of our BT Young Scientist students Rebecca Jordan & Sarah Ryan, who competed at the recent exhibition in the RDS Dublin with their Social & Behavioural Sciences Category project entitled Period Poverty: An investigation into social and economic reasons for a stigma surrounding menstruation and women.

Their project was based on accessibility in relation to female hygiene products.

The girls created an educational campaign called The Pink Pov within Thurles Town to educate and support women & girls.

As part of their campaign, they visited the owners of local shops and establishments eg. pharmacies, youth work centres and the library.

Congratulations again to Rebecca, Sarah and to their mentor Ms Katie Carr pictured in the photo.
