Blow for Tipp footballers as Conor Sweeney suffers season ending injury versus Down

David Power and the Tipperary senior footballers have been dealt a cruel blow as it is understood that star forward Conor Sweeney suffered a season ending knee injury in the first round Allianz Football League defeat to Down last Saturday night.

The injury occurred around the hour mark in the league opener in FBD Semple Stadium, and although he initially tried to continue, Sweeney soon limped off the field.

It was hoped that the injury wasn't as bad as first feared, but it has been confirmed that the Ballyporeen man has ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, which will mean surgery and a minimum of six months on the sidelines for the Tipperary stalwart which will rule him out of this year's league and championship.

It is the latest in a massive number of blows in personnel for David Power as he is without Michael Quinlivan, Robbie Kiely (retired), and Colin O'Riordan (back in Australia) with forward options now thin on the ground for the Premier men ahead of their away trip to Cavan this weekend.
