Grandson and grandfathers in Tipperary share Harty Cup connection

Thurles CBS will play Dublin school in Croke Cup quarter-final

Grandson and grandfathers in Tipperary share Harty Cup connection

Oisin Dwan and his grandfathers Patsy Butler and Liam Dwan have played in the Dr Harty Cup hurling final

A Thurles CBS panellist in the TUS Dr Harty Cup final, Cashel King Cormacs player Oisin Dwan, has an interesting historical connection with the competition.

Oisin is son of Billy and Irene Dwan, Thurlesbeg, located between Boherlahan and Cashel. Interestingly, both his grandfathers, Patsy Butler, Cashel, and Liam Dwan, Holycross, won Harty Cup medals with Thurles CBS in 1956 and 1951.

Both men hail from well-known GAA families, Liam having played with Holycross/Ballycahill in his heyday while Patsy, who has spent most of his life as a Cashel resident, lined out for Thurles Sarsfields in his native town.

Meanwhile, Thurles CBS will play Coláiste Eoin from Dublin in the Croke Cup, All-Ireland semi-final at Park/Ratheniska GAA Club, Laois at 2pm this Saturday.
