The late Patricia (Patsy) Goodall (née O'Donnell) from Pearse Park, Tipperary Town.
A Tipperary Town community is shocked and devastated at the tragic death of 74-year-old grandmother Patricia (Patsy) Goodall in a house fire last week.
The funeral of Mrs Goodall (née O’Donnell), who died in the fire at her Pearse Park home last Thursday, takes place this evening (Wednesday, February 22).
Her remains will repose at Whelan’s Funeral Home, Bansha Road, Tipperary from 6pm to 7pm and a private cremation will follow.
Mrs Goodall was a well-known and highly regarded member of her local community. Mourners who expressed their condolences to her family on RIP.ie over the past few days remembered her as a “kind and generous lady” and “lovely”, “gentle” person.
Her late husband, Noel, ran the Tipp Top Tile shop on O’Brien Street in the town.
The fire at her single-storey home was reported to the emergency services just after 10am last Thursday, February 16.
Neighbours tried in vain to rescue her from the burning house before the fire brigade arrived.
A Tipperary Fire Service spokesman said three fire tenders from Tipperary and Cashel Fire Stations attended the fire and remained at the scene until 1.30pm.
Mrs Goodall’s body was removed to University Hospital Waterford where a post mortem examination took place.
Her home was badly damaged by the fire and the scene was preserved for a technical examination to be conducted.
A Tipperary Town Garda Station spokesman said they were not treating the cause of the fire as suspicious. A report on the fire will be prepared for the coroner’s inquest.
Local Fine Gael Cllr John Crosse expressed condolences to the Goodall and O’Donnell families on the tragic loss of their beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.
He said Patsy Goodall was noted by friends and neighbours as a very friendly, helpful and hospitable person. “This is an awful tragedy and her family, neighbours and friends are deeply saddened and shocked,” he told The Nationalist.
Mrs Goodall is survived by her son Jason, sister Margaret, grandson Nathanael, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
May she rest in peace.
