Silver and bronze and Dundrum teams in Tipperary Novice Road Championships

COUNTY NOVICE ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS


The County Novice Road Championships were held on Sunday last in Moyne. We had 22 athletes competing.


The women raced over 3k and we had five competing. First home for the club in a fine performance was fourth, Tish Ryan 12:13. This was a fantastic run for Tish, who is just returning from injury. She was closely followed by fifth Catherine Fogarty 12:18, 10th Mairead Julian 12:33, 15th Emily Leahy 13:19 and making her debut to championship racing, 20th, Zoe Curling 15:22. Tish, Catherine and Mairead won silver in the team event, just two points behind the winners.


In the men’s race we had a fine turnout of 17 competing over 6k. Eamonn Morrissey had a superb race to win silver in 19:47. Next we had 19th Gerry O’Neill 22:09, 23rd Derek Breen 22:23 and 26th Darren Allison 22:27. These four combined to win bronze in the team event.

Also racing were 35th Michael Ryan 23:14, 40th Ruaidhri Devitt 23:36, 43rd Paudie Coen 23:52, 56th John Ryan 24:46, 58th Richard Bresnen 24:53, 61st Jim Halley 25:01, 63rd William Keane 25:06, 64th Tommy Byrnes 25:08, 67th Shane White 25:39, 75th Liam Butler 27:40, 76th John O’Brien 28:34, 78th PJ Holmes 29:12 and 81st Will Ryan.


Many made their debut for this championship race, including Gerry, Derek, Darren, Richard, William Shane, John and Will. It’s fantastic to see new faces out racing.
