A Thurles councillor has called on the council to take action in a Thurles estate. At this week’s sitting of Thurles/Templemore District Council, Cllr Jim Ryan said Stradavoher Court was an “eyesore and an embarrassment”.

“It’s becoming the Moyross of Tipperary, and it’s a disgrace,” said Cllr Ryan.

The Thurles councillor said the estate suffers from issues like squatting, burnt-out houses and rubbish dumping.

He called on the District to resolve issues around waste disposal and property damage.

“While we have everyone today, I want to get an answer. In my opinion, it is clearly a breach of planning. There are a lot of people who want me to raise this,” said Cllr Ryan.

Councillor Hanafin said he had also previously raised issues in Stradavoher Court.

“It’s not litter, in fact it’s pollution,” said Cllr Hanafin. He said he knows houses are being bought out, but it was a slow process and he hoped for “some sort of solution”.
