Youths Cup Round 2

Cullen Lattin 4 – 2 Bansha Celtic

After beating Clonmel Town in the previous round, Cullen welcomed Bansha Celtic to Aisling Park on Saturday afternoon for the second round of the cup.

On a beautiful day for football, the home side started really well and were on top in most parts of the field. In the 20th minute, they made the early pressure count when Jake Ryan fired a crossfield ball that was met by Dylan McGrath at the back post to put them ahead.

Cullen Lattin continued to dominate, putting massive pressure on the Bansha Celtic back line, and this finally told when after another good move Tristan Stokes received the ball about 20 yards from goal and struck a great effort into the bottom corner of the net.

Bansha finally awoke from their stupor and started to make some inroads into the home side’s territory, but were unable to pull a goal back prior to the break.

Bansha continued to press hard at the start of the second half, but against the run of play Michael Ryan (Bob) got in behind the visiting defence to finish well, and put Cullen three up and very much in the box seat in the 53rdminute.

Bansha Celtic finally got some reward just on the hour mark, when they were awarded a penalty, and Adam Hennessey made no mistake to bring it back to 3-1.

But that just seemed to get Cullen Lattin focused again, and they got a fourth goal 15 minutes from time when Dylan McGrath fired home his second of the day.

A gutsy Bansha Celtic forced a penalty with ten minutes to go, and Adam Hennessey put away to make it 4-2.

After that, the home side shut up shop and made sure their name would be going in the hat for the next round of the competition.
