Jake Mitchell
piece by Nenagh filmmaker Jake Mitchell has reached the Munster Regional Final of the Fresh Film Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards 2023.
Keeper Hill & Surrounding Areas was created by Jake last year.
Commenting on the big news, Jake said: “I’m honoured to have made it to the final round of the competition with my film Keeper Hill. It’s been a long journey, but I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
Jake released his documentary on Keeper Hill and the area last October.
With his film Jake said he hoped to show people just how beautiful Keeper Hill is and encourage tourism in the area.
Speaking about his film last year, he said: “I hope that when people see how beautiful Keeper Hill actually is, they will be more intrigued to go up there and even during the snowy months.”
The film will be screened at the final at the Belltable Art Centre in Limerick in March.
This is not the first time Jake’s work has been recognised by the Fresh Film Festival.
Last April, Jake won the Online Views Award at the Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards.
Jake took home the award for Mr Mean, a music video that at the time had 2,490 views.
“At that time, Jake was working on his Keeper Hill project, a story that he is still passionate about telling.
“I believe Keeper Hill is an important story to tell, and I hope to continue exploring it and sharing it with others through my future projects,” said Jake. In the future Jake is looking forward to collaborating with Silver Rock Studios on some projects later this year.
Jake would also like to express his appreciation to the hiking community.
"I've received hundreds of messages from profound hikers around the country. I've been told there's going to be many more visitors at Keeper Hill this summer," said Jake.
