Dundrum ACs Sunday morning group runners.
The Munster Road Championships were held on Sunday last in Quilty, county Clare. It incorporated the Munster Senior, Novice and Masters Road Championships in the one race. The men and women raced together over four miles.
Kevin Moore continued his fantastic form to win the Senior race in 20:11. Dymphna Ryan was 21st overall in 22:56 and won the Senior and Over 40 races.
What an achievement for Dymphna, who is the reigning champion since 2020. She has won this race in 2020, 2022 and now 2023. Due to Covid there was no race in 2021.
Next we had 39th, Derek Breen 24:45. This was Derek’s debut to Munster Championship racing and he was on the County Over 35 team that won bronze.
Also racing were 59th Paudie Coen 26:11 and 72nd Jim Halley 26:46.
MUNSTER JUVENILE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Munster Juvenile Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh on Sunday. We are still waiting on the results to be published, but we had a fine turnout of athletes competing.
COUCH 2 5K
Our Couch 2 5k started on Monday, February 13. It’s a nine-week programme. Training by coaches is held on Monday and Thursday at 7pm at the track at Dundrum Community Centre (former Scouts Hall). Club group runs are held on Saturday and Sundays at 9am at the Duck Pond, Marlbog. You need to complete three runs per week.
Club registration will need to be completed once you start for insurance purposes. There’s no other charge. You will be added to the Fit4Life WhatsApp group, where the week ahead plan will be shared in case you can’t make any of the organised runs.
Fit4Life group are the most welcoming group to start on this journey. If you can already run 5k and want to improve your time, this programme will still be suitable.
Our Fit4Life is similar to Couch 2 5k throughout the year. It just depends on the effort put in, whether that’s for beginners or consistent runners wanting to improve.
SPEED SESSIONS
A speed session is held every Tuesday at 7pm at the track in the Canon Hayes Recreational Centre in Tipp Town. It’s suitable for those already consistently running and who want to gain speed.
SLOW/LONG RUNS
Group slow and/or long runs are held every Saturday at 8.30am and Sunday at 9am in the Duck Pond, Marlbog. There’s a 2km and 3km route.
