The Tipperary Association Dublin has announced the details of the Annual Awards Function at which the Tipperary Person of the Year for 2022 will be presented to hurling great Padraic Maher while former County Board Secretary Tim Floyd will be inducted in the Association’s Hall of Fame.

Both have made a wonderful contribution to Tipperary GAA according to Liam Myles of the Dublin Association who says that Padraic Maher stood out from the crowd and epitomised the spirit of the blue and gold jersey:
“Paidi was such a hero for Tipp people.

“He gave more enjoyment and lifted our spirits than anyone over the last 13 years when he lined out for Tipperary so we are delighted to honour Paidi” the Dublin based Ardfinnan native said.

Padraic is currently a selector for the Tipperary senior hurling team. Forced to retire in early 2022 on medical advice he had won it all by then, collected 3 All-Ireland senior hurling medals, 5 Munster senior medals, a Railway Cup and 6 All-Star awards.
Breaking onto the scene when Kilkenny were at their strongest, Padraic played a key role over the 13 year period he hurled with the county to take Tipp back to the summit of hurling.

A Thurles Sarsfields stalwart, the former Tipperary captain won 7 Tipp senior hurling medals and a Munster Club with his club.
The Garda also published his memoir "All On The Line" last year which reflected on his time play for his county.
Every supporter will have their own memory of what he brought to the jersey but suffice to say his name was always the first to be put on the team sheet.

As well as Padraic being celebrated on the night, Newport GAA stalwart Tim Floyd will be inducted in the Association’s Hall of Fame.

The retired Tipperary GAA Board Secretary served his county in many different roles across the years.
Growing up in north Tipperary, he played hurling and football with his club from childhood before graduating to the Tipperary minor hurling team where he won an All-Ireland medal in 1976.

From there Tim went on to serve his club and county to great effect on the sporting field of play, winning five north Tipperary championships as well as lining out at all levels for the Tipperary footballers. Tim was also heavily involved in Scor over the years at all levels.

After his playing days finished he served as Secretary of the Tipperary County Board for 14 years until his recent retirement in 2022.

During his tenure he oversaw many changes and was heavily involved in modernising aspects of Tipperary GAA such as sponsorship deals throughout the years, the advent of live streaming of games with Tipp GAA TV as well as looking after Tipp teams to the highest standards always.

The development of Dr. Morris Park was also completed under his watch and is now being redeveloped. The Birdhill native continues to serve his county as coordinator of the GAA Clubs Draw which brings in vital revenue for clubs across the county.

Over the years Tim has been a huge asset to Tipperary GAA.

Liam Myles of the Tipperary Association Dublin says he is a worthy winner of the award:
“We have known Tim down the years and had a lot of dealings with him particularly when we got to All-Irelands and planning the functions, as the Association in Dublin is an integral part of the planning of the receptions for the All-Ireland teams. We always dealt with Tim and he is a great guy. He has done a lot for the GAA and the Board in terms of initiatives such as development and sponsorship. He's a hard goer and we are delighted to be honouring him and inducting him into our Hall Of Fame.

“He joins a lot of great people there on the roll of honour. There's a long history of being honoured there. We are very proud of the awards. It's a way of recognising what people have done and contributed over their time in whatever their career was," he said.
