Huge Easter Weekend commemoration planned for Newcastle to mark Liam Lynch Centenary

The Lynch Lynch Souvenir calendar will be launched in the coming weeks.

Newcastle Liam Lynch Centenary Commemoration


The Ballymacarbry Community Centre has been asked to promote a public call for memorabilia in anticipation of the Centenary Commemoration of General Liam Lynch which will be held in Newcastle during the Easter Weekend 2023.


The Newcastle Liam Lynch Memorial Committee have events planned on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday with the main Centenary Commemoration event taking place on Easter Monday, April 10.


Plans include a historical bus tour and a book launch on Easter Saturday, “Follow the Footsteps” Walking tour and viewing of the recently released film “The Dying Days - The Final Journey of General Liam Lynch 1923” which was partly filmed in Newcastle taking place on Easter Sunday.


RTE Morning Ireland will broadcast from Newcastle on Easter Monday morning with the Annual Commemoration Mass and Oration taking place on Easter Monday.

A Souvenir calendar will also be launched in the coming weeks.


The committee intends to have a public display of Memorabilia associated with Liam Lynch and the volunteers/ Cumann na mBan during that time and are putting out a public call to all those who may have memorabilia including old letters, equipment, photographs, prison craft or historical accounts of the men and women who fought for Irish Independence between 1919-1923.


All memorabilia will be treated with the utmost care and respect and will be returned to the respective owners.
