Moore and Ryan favourites for Tipperary Senior Road titles at Templemore

Moore and Ryan favourites for Tipperary Senior Road titles at Templemore

Dundrum AC clubmates Kevin Moore and Dymphna Ryan will start as favourites in the Tipperary Senior Road Championships in Templemore on Sunday next.

Templemore is the venue this coming Sunday, March 24 for the County Junior 3k, Senior Women’s 5k and Men’s 10k Road Championships.
Templemore is more noted as the venue for all our county track and field championships, as they have a fantastic facility there. The last time the County Senior Road Championships were held in Templemore was 2019. That year both the Women’s and Men’s titles were won by the Dundrum duo of Dymphna Ryan and Kevin Moore, with Clonmel and Thurles Crokes winning the respective club titles.
Athletes and clubs should note that the race numbers can be collected at the Templemore AC clubhouse at the track, where there will be changing and toilet facilities available. The finish line for all three races is outside the old courthouse on Bank Street. The presentation of the awards will take place in the clubhouse immediately afterwards.

JUNIORS SHOULD BE A GREAT RACE
The Junior 3k race for women and men gets proceedings underway at 12 noon. This could be a great race if all the eligible athletes compete, as there is a very strong group of junior athletes in the county at the moment.
In last year’s race Clonmel won both the women’s and men’s club titles and are well capable of retaining both again this year. However, they could face good competition from Nenagh Olympic, Dundrum and Moyne.

DYMPHNA FAVOURITE FOR WOMEN’S TITLE
In the senior women’s race Dymphna Ryan, the current Munster Senior Four Mile Road champion and defending champion will start a warm favourite for this title. She will face good competition from athletes like Angela McCann, recent winner of the Kilsheelan 10 mile; Courtney McGuire and Kealey Tideswell, after their good performances in the Portlaoise 5k; Madeline Loughnane and Sharon Cleere of Thurles Crokes, the current County Novice and Intermediate champions.
In the team event the defending champions are Clonmel and they will be aiming to retain this coveted title as they can also call upon such athletes as Elaine Horgan and Suzanne Shine. Dundrum will also have a major say in the destination of the cup with athletes like Catherine Fogarty and Mairead Julian, while Thurles Crokes will be looking to athletes like Laura Burke Carey and Paula Mills to help win the title.

KEVIN IS FAVOURITE TO RETAIN MEN’S CROWN
In the Men’s race Kevin Moore, the current Munster Senior Road champion will be aiming to retain his title. He will face strong competition from Dermot Gorman of Carrick-on-Suir, the current County Novice and Intermediate champion, Mossy Bracken of Moycarkey Coolcroo and possibly the Clonmel duo of William Maunsell and David Mansfield, after their great performances in the Portlaoise 5k.
In the team event Clonmel are defending champions and they will face good competition from Dundrum, Carrick-on-Suir and Moycarkey Coolcroo in what could be a very competitive event for both the individual and team titles.
